We are kicking off Spring with a combo Botany/Ancient Civ Block (and a little Geography thrown in). I added the list of books I am using for this block in the Botany and Ancient Civ sections of our community forum!
I made a quick chalkboard drawing for our block that I felt represented everything we are setting out to adventure with. . . going through the lower to higher plants and having them growing out of the earth like hairs on the head (a wonderful Steiner analogy I love) and the warmth of the sun above! Atlantis is below, about to be swallowed by the sea. . .
For our first day, we went with some dear friends to Duke Gardens. It was an absolutely gorgeous spring day! On the way, we discussed plants in general in a similar way to the Archetypal Plant chapter in the Charles Kovacs book. Then, when we arrived, we experienced the beauty and wonder as we walked through the gardens. . . just taking it all in. I felt like it was a great way for our spirits to launch into this block!
To wonder at beauty,
Stand guard over truth,
Look up to the noble,
Resolve on the good;
This leads us truly
To purpose in living,
To right in our doing,
To peace in our feeling,
To light in ou thinking.
And teaches us trust
In the workings of God
In all that there is
In the widths of the world,
In the depths of the soul.
